In the twenty years that have passed since the late Henning Mankell became an international publishing success, Scandinavian crime fiction or Nordic noir has shown no signs of relinquishing its popularity. The peak reached with Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy has yet to be repeated, but the market remains appreciative, and many bookshops have special sections dedicated to Nordic crime fiction. This is something of an oddity, given that the Nordic countries rank among the most peaceful in the world.
