No Exit to publish James Sallis sequel to 'DRIVE'

No Exit Press has acquired, Driven, the hotly anticipated sequel to James Sallis' cult crime novel, Drive, which was made into a hit movie starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan and won a clutch of top awards. No Exit's Publishing Director, Ion Mills, bought UK and Commonwealth rights (including digital) for an undisclosed sum from the author's US agent, Vicky Bijur, through Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein.

The book will be published as a paperback original in June 2012 along with a major relaunch of all twelve of Sallis' backlist titles complete with stylish new covers. Many of the titles will also be available as ebooks for the first time.

Seven years have passed since Driver, the nameless protagonist of Drive, a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver for the mob, ended his campaign against those who double-crossed him. He has left the criminal underworld, become Paul West and founded a successful business back in Phoenix.

But walking down the street one day, he and his fiancée are attacked by two men and, while Driver dispatches both, his fiancée is killed. Sinking back into anonymity, aided by his friend Felix, an ex-gangbanger and Desert Storm vet, Driver realises that his past stalks him - and he has to turn and face it.

Ion Mills said 'James is a superb writer and a unique talent. Drive was a breakthrough book and was made into a terrific movie which helped win him a global mainstream audience. The follow-up will be one of the most eagerly awaited crime novels of the year.'

Sallis, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, will be on a rare UK visit to promote the book in May and June and will be appearing at key festivals, screenings and author events.

The movie, Drive, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 30, 2012.

Driven will be published by No Exit Press on June 1st, 2012 as a 'B' format paperback, price £7.99
