So it’s been a while, right?
Scarred, the third novel in the Henning Juul series, was released in the UK in the beginning of 2014, if I’m not very much mistaken. It hasn’t taken me three years to write the next instalment, but I’ve changed publisher in the UK, for a lot of reasons, and that’s not done overnight. But boy, what a joy it is for me to finally tell you the rest of my saga. Cursed is number four, courtesy of Orenda Books. Killed will be out approximately the same time next year.
We’re a few weeks into the launch of Cursed, and I’ve just been on a little tour in the UK, starting with the inaugural Granite Noir in Aberdeen, then we headed to Corbridge, Liverpool, Leeds and we ended our tour in the beautiful city of Canterbury. That means I’ve talked a lot about my book and met a lot of people during the space of one week, and for us writers it really is a blast to be able to travel around, talking about what we do. You know, we spend most our days staring into a computer. We may even find ourselves confined to a rather dull working environment. If you came to one of our Orenda Roadshow events, you could probably hear some of us complain about how hard it is to be a writer, how much work it is, how much actual pain is involved.
There certainly are elements to this profession that are hard to deal with, but when we’re going on a tour like this, we are very much reminded why we do what we do and why we love it so much.
It’s the privilege of meeting you.
The ones who have actually read our work, the ones who show up to listen to us speak. It’s the ones that a bit shyly come up to us afterwards and ask us to sign their copy of our book, or the ones that just want to have their pictures taken with us. It’s the ones asking us that one question they’ve been wanting to ask us for a long time. It’s the ones telling us how much they love our work.
It’s great feeling to hold your novel for the very first time, the actual, physical evidence of all the hard work you’ve put in, but the icing on the cake is meeting the reader who loves it.
So thank you, reader, for your patience, and for making it all worthwhile.
