A high-flying work-obsessed computer entrepreneur is about to make a fortune from his company's molecular electronics breakthrough when a strange coincidence threatens to ruin his life: his new phone number is still listed to its previous owner, a high-class call girl who has vanished -- presumably to her death. Incredibly, he lets himself get involved, doggedly trying to find out what happened to her. Why? Ah, it turns out there is a reason: in Henry's past is a family secret that won't allow him to walk away. Who would have guessed? (Learn that and you've guessed the ending.) Connelly always writes effectively, but this latest tale and its denouement are never really credible.
