The Designated Victim

Maurizio Lucidi, director/Shameless

The dedication of this enterprising company to making available some of the most elusive Italian gialli is truly to be commended, as this latest release (their most ambitious issue yet) attests. It’s a visually stunning Latin riff on Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train (definitely the film rather than Patricia Highsmith’s original novel); the exquisitely shot Venice setting is a plus, as is an Italian language track with subtitles (a welcome change from the company’s unfortunate penchant – until now – for crassly dubbed versions of Italian films; the only caveat one might make in the company’s reissue program).
