Mike Stotter has established a name as one of the most adroit practitioners of the Western in this country, but his crime fiction credentials are not to be sniffed at (not least his stewardship of the excellent crime fiction website Shots). This crime collection is varied and inventive, with (as the jacket says), a reach that extends from Jacobean London to the mean streets of the East End, and includes such subjects as a boy lost in the jungle to a girl adrift in the world of night clubbing and drugs, along with a quintessentially English murder in the library, to a dystopian view of the future. It’s an ambitious and unusual collection.
