Marcel Berlins in The Times on Euro Noir
In Euro Noir, Barry Forshaw provides an informative, interesting, accessible and enjoyable guide to the crime fiction that he didn’t cover in last year’s Nordic Noir. The British reader’s love affair with writers from the cold countries of Northern Europe, led by Henning Mankell and Stieg Larsson, is slightly abating, and the merits of authors from the rest of Europe are becoming more appreciated. More are being translated into English. Forshaw guides us through the crime output of a dozen nations, from France, Italy, Spain and Germany to the less obvious Poland and Greece. Interviews with authors add to the understanding.
