Any aficionado of the classic horror story is almost certain to have several of the titles included in this rather cherishable volume, but the collection is so well chosen that it now becomes at a stroke the perfect one-stop for classic horror tales from Poe, Blackwood and Co. — along with several pieces that the reader might not have encountered. Darryl Jones has done an exemplary job here, as he did with his previous Collected Ghost Stories of MR James, also for OUP (and James, of course is represented here). A very recommendable collection.
