For the new version of Graham Greene’s classic novel, an intriguing and innovative score was required – and that is precisely what Martin Phipps has provided. Utilising a quirky (and not always ingratiating) variety of orchestral elements, Phips contrives to produce an orchestral palette that is quite unlike conventional film scoring – and provides precisely the counterpoint that Rowan Joffe’s take on Greene requires.
